Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 30, 2026

TransLite is a macOS menubar app for instant text translation, made by an independent developer. This policy explains what data the app and the website (translite.app) handle, and what we deliberately never collect.

The short version: TransLite has no user accounts, stores no personal profile about you, and never stores the text you translate.

The text you translate

To translate or improve text, that text has to be sent to an AI provider. How it travels depends on how you use the app:

  • Free and Pro plans: your text is sent to our own API (hosted on Cloudflare Workers), which forwards it to OpenAI to produce the translation. Your text is processed in memory only — we do not log it, store it, or use it for anything other than returning your translation.
  • Bring-your-own-key (BYOK): if you configure your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key, the app talks to that provider directly. Your text never passes through our servers at all.

In both cases the AI provider processes your text under its own API terms. OpenAI and Anthropic state that data sent through their APIs is not used to train their models. See the OpenAI Privacy Policy and the Anthropic Privacy Policy.

API keys and license keys

  • Your own API keys (BYOK) are stored locally on your Mac in the macOS Keychain. They are sent only to the provider they belong to (OpenAI or Anthropic) and never to our servers.
  • Pro license keys are stored locally and validated against the Lemon Squeezy licensing API to activate your plan.

Usage quotas

The Free plan has a daily translation quota. To enforce it, the app sends a random device identifier with each request. This identifier is generated on your Mac, contains no personal information, and is not linked to your identity. Daily counters are stored in Cloudflare and expire automatically after each day.

Anonymous analytics in the app

TransLite sends anonymous operational events for app launches, translations, and text improvements. Events may include the selected provider, target language, tone, request duration, and delivery result. These events help us understand usage and fix problems.

TransLite never sends:

  • the text you select, translate, or generate,
  • your API keys or license keys,
  • your name, email address, or any account identifier.

Payments

Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy collects the billing information needed to process your payment (such as your email address and payment method) under its own privacy policy. We never see or store your payment card details.

App updates

The app checks for updates using the Sparkle framework by fetching a release feed hosted on GitHub. This is a standard HTTPS request and includes no personal information beyond what any web request carries (such as your IP address, which we do not store).

Website analytics

The website uses privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics (Umami) to measure page views and clicks in aggregate. No cookies are set, no personal data is collected, and visitors are not tracked across sites.

Third-party services

TransLite relies on these providers to operate:

  • OpenAI / Anthropic — AI translation processing
  • Cloudflare — hosting for our translation API and quota counters
  • Lemon Squeezy — payments and license management
  • GitHub — hosting app downloads and the update feed
  • Umami — cookieless website analytics

Data retention and security

We keep as little as possible. Translated text is never stored. Quota counters expire daily. Anonymous analytics events are retained in aggregate form. All network communication uses HTTPS.

Your rights

Because TransLite does not maintain accounts or store personal data about you, there is usually nothing for us to delete or export. For billing data, you can exercise your rights (access, correction, deletion) directly with Lemon Squeezy or by contacting us. If you are in the EU/EEA, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Children

TransLite is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date above. Material changes will be highlighted in the app release notes.
